Altitude FC is a North Shore based club that was introduced as one of the founding clubs of the new League1 BC semi-pro soccer league that kicked off in 2022. League1 BC fills a gap in the competitive soccer landscape in the Province – one step up from amateur and one step below the fully professional Canadian Premier League (CPL). It is equivalent to the 3rd Division of the Canadian soccer pyramid, sitting below MLS and CPL, and complementing the post-secondary level of competition so that players can participate in both. The league’s summer season runs from April to the August long weekend.
Altitude FC is the home club of a proud and passionate soccer region that encompasses North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and the Sea-to-Sky corridor up to Squamish, Whistler and Pemberton. Home to one of the largest youth soccer bodies in the province and many recreational men’s and women’s adult leagues, Altitude FC provides a semi-pro club that local youth and their families can support and aspire to play for in their own community.
We intend to provide more opportunities for young men and women with higher level aspirations to have the time and club-support to help them mature as players, as they transition from youth football to adult high-performance soccer. League1 BC balances the typical pressure to perform immediately found in most pro soccer leagues with the strong support and development environment of a semi-pro club that has players that straddle both the amateur and pro levels.
Altitude FC aims to galvanize the competitive spirit that permeates the soccer community on the North Shore. We ask all of our local soccer clubs to unite into one voice and team behind which the whole community can throw its support in friendly competition with other soccer communities in the province. As a community club, our goal is to enhance the soccer and sporting environment by offering a high-performance soccer option locally, create a safe and inclusive environment for players and supporters, provide a fun, festive, family environment, and ensure that the club is economically and legally sound. We aim to make a meaningful impact on the community.
The inaugural season for League1 BC was in 2022. League1 BC is an adult open age Pro-Am Soccer League operated by BC Soccer. Established in 2021, the league is intended to bridge the gap between youth and professional soccer, targeting the “Training to Compete” stage within Long-term Player Development (LTPD).
The season is runs from April to the August long weekend. There are currently eight clubs competing; Altitude FC, Harbourside FC, Victoria Highlanders FC, Nautsa’mauk FC, Rivers FC, TSS Rovers, Unity FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Squads will include a combination of paid adult players, university and college students, as well as anyone else with the talent and skill to make the team. Both men’s and women’s teams will be fielded by each of the seven clubs and game days will feature a doubleheader of both the men and women against their counterparts from the same opposing club.
Altitude FC gratefully acknowledges that we work, live and play on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the territories of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
